Build safety into the design
We first consider whether the design or process can eliminate or reduce hazards. Layout, access, forces, speeds, energy and the need for intervention all influence the resulting concept.
Select and coordinate safeguards
Where design measures alone are insufficient, the concept defines suitable protective measures and their interaction with the machine.
- Fixed guards and interlocking movable guards
- Light curtains, laser scanners and other protective devices
- Emergency-stop arrangements and prevention of unexpected restart
- Safe stopping, reduced speed and enabling devices
- Shared protection zones and safeguards at machinery interfaces
Cover every relevant operating mode
Automatic operation is only part of the picture. Setting, cleaning, maintenance and fault finding need suitable access and isolation arrangements. We address operating modes, permissions, reset and restart concepts, shutdown matrices and lockout/tagout arrangements as applicable.
Functional safety and EN ISO 13849
Safety functions must be defined and linked to the hazards they address. We support functional descriptions, required performance levels (PLr), interfaces between safety-related parts of control systems and the structure of verification and validation evidence. Detailed design, calculation, verification and validation are carried out by the responsible specialists or system suppliers according to the agreed project scope.
Document the interfaces
The concept coordinates mechanical design, electrical and control engineering, integrators, suppliers and the company operating the machinery. Clear responsibilities help prevent gaps between the safety design and its implementation.
What you receive
- A documented machinery or installation safety concept
- Defined protective measures and safety functions
- Operating-mode and access arrangements
- An interface list and allocation of responsibilities
- Requirements and documentation structure for verification and validation
Deliverables are agreed to match the product, project stage and scope.
Frequently asked questions
Can you review an existing concept?
Yes. We compare it with the risk assessment, actual operating modes and machine interfaces.
Do you support functional safety?
Yes, with conceptual structure, descriptions, documentation and evidence preparation. The scope of detailed calculations and validation is agreed with the responsible specialists.
Is a site visit useful?
It can be especially valuable where access, operator tasks or interfaces cannot be fully understood from the documentation.
juristech supports technical assessment, regulatory classification and documentation within the agreed scope. Responsibility for product conformity, technical implementation, marking and release remains with the manufacturer or other responsible economic operator. We do not provide representation in legal disputes.
