Risk assessment for machinery

juristech creates, reviews and updates machinery risk assessments using EN ISO 12100 as a basis. We connect the assessment with the design, safety concept, instructions and wider conformity assessment.

Risk assessment for machinery

Define the machine and its limits

A sound assessment begins with a clear scope: functions, intended use, reasonably foreseeable misuse, users, operating conditions and the relevant life-cycle phases. Interfaces with people and other machines form part of that scope.

Identify hazards, estimate and evaluate risks

We identify hazards and assess the associated risks across installation, commissioning, operation, setting, maintenance, fault finding and other relevant activities.

  • Mechanical, electrical and thermal hazards
  • Noise, vibration, radiation and ergonomic factors
  • Energy sources, control systems and software-related hazards
  • Interfaces with other machinery and installation areas
  • Severity of harm, exposure to hazards, occurrence of hazardous events and possibilities of avoiding or limiting harm

Reduce risks in a clear order

Protective measures follow the hierarchy of risk reduction: inherently safe design measures, safeguarding and complementary protective measures, followed by information for use concerning remaining risks. Warnings do not automatically replace a feasible technical safeguard.

Keep the assessment connected

Measures, safety functions and residual risks must be reflected in the actual machine and its documentation. We record decisions, open actions, references, revisions and the information required for instructions for use.

EMC and cybersecurity assessments

Where relevant, electromagnetic influences, manipulation and cybersecurity risks are examined in separate specialist assessments. juristech uses dedicated templates for EMC risk assessment and cybersecurity risk assessment under the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), Regulation (EU) 2024/2847, for products with digital elements.

Work in the tools you use

Assessments can be prepared in juristech Office templates, customer templates or suitable software such as Safexpert, DOCUFY Machine Safety or WEKA Manager CE, depending on the project.

What you receive

  • A structured risk assessment and hazard list
  • A documented risk-reduction strategy
  • A list of protective measures and open actions
  • Residual-risk information for instructions and warnings
  • Traceable references to standards and technical evidence

Deliverables are agreed to match the product, project stage and scope.

Frequently asked questions

Can you update an existing assessment?

Yes. We review its scope and relation to the current machine, then address missing or outdated content.

Do you work with Safexpert?

Yes. We can use Safexpert and, where appropriate, customer templates or other supported tools.

Does a completed document prove that the machine is safe?

The assessment supports the safety process. Protective measures must also be correctly implemented, verified and, where required, validated by the responsible parties.

juristech supports technical assessment, regulatory classification and documentation within the agreed scope. Responsibility for product conformity, technical implementation, marking and release remains with the manufacturer or other responsible economic operator. We do not provide representation in legal disputes.
